My current PhD research broadly applies the social-ecological systems (SES) framework to study resilience of agriculture and livelihood systems in dryland ecosystems, assessing factors and principles critical in building social-ecological resilience and towards achieving sustainability. Employing a mixed-methods ethnographic focused approach, the project specifically examines the responses of vulnerable smallholder farmers and communities to significant social and environmental events such as extreme droughts. And assesses how the responses build social-ecological resilience of households and communities.
