Researcher, Private Institute for Climate Change Research

My research focuses on understanding how communities located in the lower areas of watersheds in the Pacific slopes of Guatemala have faced flood events. A major component will inquire about resilience or changes in the livelihoods of communities and families to the effects and impacts of this natural phenomenon.

The purpose of this study is to identify intervention points or nodes in the (lower areas of Achiguate and Sis-Ican watersheds) social-ecological systems which can increase resilience for future similar events (floods). It will also become an important input for decision-makers and will allow resources (technical, economic and institutional) to strengthen communities as they become more resilient to these changes.

Key research Interests: Resilience to flooding, adaptive cycle applied, adaptation to climate change
